Oops. I just posted this question in the Bug Fix forum since it seemed to me that it didn't really belong here. I was coming back here to say to never mind what I posted above.
I've explored that whole area since the server was reset and have talked to almost everyone that would talk to me, including this strange, mysterious person again but so far haven't seen anything which looked like it would help. One thing I have NOT done yet since the server was reset was to change garments so that I could go into the temple that's there to talk to the person inside. I can give that a try to see if that's what I'm missing. The temple is right in that same area...
